Description: “The Princess Bride,” a 1987 film, is a story within a story, as a grandfather reads a book to his sick grandson, who initially dismisses the tale. The narrative follows Buttercup, a beautiful young woman living on a farm in the fictional kingdom of Florin. Buttercup often assigns tasks to her farmhand Westley, who always responds with, “As you wish.” Over time, she realizes that Westley loves her, and she reciprocates his feelings. Westley leaves to seek his fortune overseas so they can marry but is presumed dead when his ship is attacked by the infamous Dread Pirate Roberts, known for leaving no survivors.
Five years later, Buttercup is compelled to marry Prince Humperdinck, the heir to Florin’s throne. Before the wedding, she is kidnapped by three outlaws: Vizzini, a short Sicilian leader; Fezzik, a giant from Greenland; and Inigo Montoya, a Spanish fencing master seeking revenge against a six-fingered man who killed his father. The outlaws are pursued by Prince Humperdinck, his soldiers, and a mysterious masked man in black.
The man in black confronts the outlaws at the Cliffs of Insanity, defeating Inigo in a duel, rendering Fezzik unconscious, and tricking Vizzini into drinking poison, which kills him. He then takes Buttercup captive, and they escape. When Buttercup accuses him of being the Dread Pirate Roberts and killing Westley, he reveals his true identity after she pushes him down a hill. As he falls, he exclaims, “As you wish!” Realizing he is Westley, Buttercup leaps after him, and they reunite. Westley explains that the title “Dread Pirate Roberts” is passed down, and he assumed it to allow the previous Roberts to retire. He plans to relinquish the title now that he has found Buttercup. However, Prince Humperdinck captures them after they escape the treacherous Fire Swamp. Buttercup agrees to return with Humperdinck after he promises to release Westley.
