Description: “The Passion of the Christ” (2004) tells the powerful story of Jesus Christ’s final hours. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prays while his disciples Peter, James, and John sleep. Satan appears in a ghostly, androgynous form to tempt Jesus. As Jesus resists, his sweat turns to blood, and he crushes a serpent that emerges from Satan’s guise, symbolizing his victory over evil.
Judas Iscariot, bribed to betray Jesus, leads an armed crowd to arrest him. During the confrontation, Peter attacks a guard named Malchus, cutting off his ear. Jesus heals Malchus but scolds Peter for his actions. The disciples flee as Jesus is captured and beaten on his way to the Sanhedrin.
John informs Jesus’ mother, Mary, and Mary Magdalene of the arrest. Mary Magdalene pleads with Roman soldiers to intervene, but she is dismissed as mentally unstable. Caiaphas, the high priest, conducts a trial for Jesus, where false witnesses accuse him. When Caiaphas asks if Jesus is the Messiah and Son of God, Jesus affirms it. Enraged, Caiaphas tears his robes and convicts Jesus of blasphemy.
Meanwhile, Peter denies knowing Jesus three times, fulfilling Jesus’ earlier prophecy. Overwhelmed with guilt, Peter flees in tears. Judas, tormented by his betrayal, tries to return the money he was paid but is rejected by the priests. Consumed by guilt and haunted by demons, Judas takes his own life.
The film captures the intense drama and sacrifice of Jesus’ final hours, portraying themes of faith, betrayal, and redemption.
