Description: “The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith” is a 2019 biographical adventure drama directed by Mitch Davis. Serving as the sequel to the 2001 film “The Other Side of Heaven,” it continues the story of John H. Groberg. Set in the 1960s, a decade after the events of the first film, John Groberg is appointed as the president of the Tonga–Fiji mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Accompanied by his wife, Jean Groberg, and their five daughters, he returns to the islands where he once served as a young missionary.
As the Groberg family adjusts to their new life in Tonga, a local minister named Sione faces turmoil upon learning that his son, Toutai, plans to join the LDS Church and become a missionary. Enraged, Sione attempts to hinder the missionaries’ efforts on the island. In a dramatic turn of events, he buries Toutai neck-deep in sand during a storm, endangering his life. Though Toutai survives, his brother is struck by lightning while trying to rescue him.
Meanwhile, Jean gives birth to their sixth child, a son who is born critically ill. The baby’s condition is too severe to allow travel for medical treatment, leaving the family in distress. During this time, Sione’s son lies in a coma in the same hospital. As both fathers witness their sons’ suffering, they set aside their differences and find solace in each other’s support.
“The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith” explores themes of faith, family, and reconciliation, offering a heartfelt continuation of John Groberg’s inspiring journey.
