Allen Gamble and Terry Hoitz are detectives with the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Allen is a reserved forensic accountant, while Terry is a hot-headed detective stuck with Allen after accidentally shooting Derek Jeter during the World Series, earning him the nickname “Yankee Clipper.” Both detectives are disrespected by their colleagues, especially by Martin and Fosse. Most officers idolize the reckless yet celebrated detectives Chris Danson and P.K. Highsmith, who are considered the best in the city despite causing massive property damage during their arrests. However, after Danson and Highsmith tragically die during a pursuit, the precinct is left questioning who will step up to fill their roles.
During an investigation into a scaffolding permit violation by billionaire Sir David Ershon, Allen and Terry uncover a larger conspiracy involving Ershon’s attempts to cover up financial losses for his client, Lendl Global. To ensure Ershon repays the debt, Lendl CEO Pamela Boardman hires mercenaries led by Roger Wesley.
As the case unfolds, Terry and Allen visit Allen’s home to discuss the investigation and have dinner. Terry becomes infatuated with Allen’s wife, Sheila, doubting how someone as beautiful could be with Allen. Later, they meet Allen’s ex-girlfriend, Christinith, who shockingly propositions him during their police investigation. Meanwhile, Terry tries to reconnect with his ex-fiancée, Francine, but his uncontrollable temper drives her away. Throughout their partnership, Allen reveals his past involvement in running a college dating service, though he denies ever being a pimp.
As they dig deeper into the case, Allen and Terry must navigate personal challenges while unraveling the intricate web of corruption surrounding Ershon and Lendl Global.
