After a suburban father dies in a car accident, his wife Naomi and teenage son Logan struggle financially. Left with no choice, they move into Naomi’s sister’s remote mountain chalet while it’s on the market. Their new home, though beautiful, brings unsettling experiences. They meet Martha, an elderly neighbor whose behavior is odd, and Chris, a friendly store clerk.
Every Sunday, during open house events, Naomi and Logan must leave the property from morning until late afternoon. Strange incidents begin to unfold—objects disappear or are moved, the house phone rings with no one on the other end, the hot water tank’s pilot light keeps turning off, and eerie noises echo through the home. One night, Logan spots a car idling in the driveway and confronts Martha, who acts unpredictably. She later hints that her supposedly deceased husband is still alive, contradicting her earlier statements.
A repairman is called to fix the hot water tank and explains that Martha’s husband is indeed deceased, attributing her confusion to Alzheimer’s. Naomi is devastated to find a family photo crumpled in the trash. When the repairman discovers Logan’s missing phone near the water heater, Naomi accuses her son of playing tricks on her. A heated argument ensues, with Logan denying any involvement in the strange occurrences.
