Description: The Nutty Professor 1996 tells the story of Sherman Klump, a kind-hearted but morbidly obese professor at Wellman College. Sherman develops an experimental formula designed to make weight loss easier by reconstructing DNA. During a date at a club called The Scream with Carla Purty, a chemistry graduate who admires his work, Sherman is humiliated by insult comic Reggie Warrington, who mocks his weight. This incident prompts Sherman to test the serum on himself the next morning, resulting in a dramatic weight loss of 250 pounds in seconds. While initially thrilled, Sherman soon discovers the effects are temporary.
Adopting a new identity as “Buddy Love,” Sherman invites Carla out again. At the club, he retaliates against Reggie by heckling him and performing a sarcastic rendition of Minnie Riperton’s “Lovin’ You” on the piano. The transformation amplifies Sherman’s testosterone levels, causing his “Buddy” persona to develop a separate, more arrogant and self-centered personality. His lab assistant, Jason, observes these changes.
As Buddy, Sherman takes credit for his own work and impresses Dean Richmond and wealthy businessman Harlan Hartley, who plans to donate $10 million to the science department. Buddy’s reckless behavior leads him to cheat on Carla, who leaves him in disgust. Sherman is eventually fired and decides to end his alter ego by destroying all serum samples with Jason’s help. However, Buddy secretly hides a sample in one of Sherman’s diet shake cans, which Sherman unknowingly drinks, transforming back into Buddy.
Jason later discovers Buddy’s dangerously high testosterone levels and intervenes during the Alumni Ball, where Buddy plans to demonstrate the serum. A physical and psychological battle ensues between Sherman and his alter ego, Buddy.
