Description: Sam, a musician in Paris, visits his ex-girlfriend Fanny to retrieve music tapes he left at her place. Fanny is hosting a party and dismisses Sam multiple times before directing him to her office for the tapes. On his way, Sam is bumped by a party guest, and once in the office, he suffers a nosebleed and passes out. Chaos erupts outside, but Sam remains unconscious. The next morning, he wakes to find the apartment destroyed, with bloodstains on the walls and no one in sight. Venturing into the stairway, he encounters a zombified Fanny and others who attack him when he calls her name. Sam locks himself in the apartment and witnesses a family across the street being overrun and killed by zombies as they try to escape.
Sam realizes the apartment, located several stories up, is the only safe haven he can find. The zombies have overrun Paris; they are fast, respond in large numbers to any sound or movement, and are eerily silent. Unable to leave, Sam begins cleaning the apartment until a shotgun blast breaks through the floor. Using a pipe, he widens the hole and discovers a deceased resident below who killed his infected wife before taking his own life.
Sam retrieves the shotgun and cautiously ventures outside, finding the stairway empty. He secures the building by closing all doors. Exploring the apartments one by one, he finds most uninhabited except for an elderly zombie trapped in the elevator. Sam ties the elevator gate shut and begins one-sided conversations with the zombie, whom he names Alfred.
