Description: The Nanny Diaries (2007) tells the story of Annie Braddock, a recent graduate from Montclair State University, who is unsure about her future. While in the park one day, she saves a young boy from an accident and meets his mother, referred to as Mrs. X. Misunderstanding Annie’s introduction, Mrs. X hires her as a nanny for her son, Grayer. Despite lying to her own mother about working at a bank, Annie moves in with the affluent X family to care for Grayer.
Life with the privileged X family proves more challenging than expected. Annie’s situation becomes even more complicated when she develops feelings for “Harvard Hottie,” a neighbor, and navigates her friendship with Lynette. She continues to deceive her mother about her job, going as far as staging a fake apartment visit. However, the truth comes to light when Grayer falls seriously ill, forcing Annie to seek her mother’s help.
Over time, Annie forms a bond with Grayer, whom she affectionately calls “Grover.” She discovers he is a kind-hearted child neglected by his parents, which explains his unruly behavior. Annie also notices the strain in Mr. and Mrs. X’s marriage, with Mr. X’s infidelity and Mrs. X’s desperate attempts to win his affection, including faking a pregnancy. Annie realizes that Mrs. X’s harsh treatment stems from her own frustrations with her failing marriage.
