Description: “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” is a 2012 adventure film that continues the story four years after the previous events. Seventeen-year-old Sean is arrested by the police after a chase on his dirtbike. His stepfather, Hank, arrives after being informed by a police officer friend that Sean had broken into a satellite control center. Hank learns that Sean accessed the satellites to enhance a coded signal he believes was sent by his long-lost grandfather, Alexander Anderson.
To connect with Sean, Hank assists in decoding the signal, which references characters from Jules Verne’s works, including “Treasure Island,” “Gulliver’s Travels,” and “The Mysterious Island.” By combining the maps from these books, they discover coordinates leading to a mysterious island. Hank convinces his wife, Liz, to let him take Sean on a journey to find the island, hoping to bond with him while subtly proving the island doesn’t exist.
They travel to Palau, where they hire a helicopter guide, Gabato, and his daughter Kailani, who quickly captures Sean’s attention. After a cyclone causes their helicopter to crash, they wake up on the mysterious island. Exploring the island, they encounter miniature elephants, giant butterflies, and a dangerous giant frilled lizard that chases them. They are eventually rescued by Alexander, who has been living on the island and built a hut from shipwreck debris.
Alexander explains that while he has a working radio, they must wait two weeks to send a signal due to the satellite’s position. The next day, he leads the group to the lost city of Atlantis, which he predicts will soon resubmerge. The film combines action, adventure, and discovery as the characters navigate the island’s wonders and dangers.
