Description: “The Mule” (2018) tells the story of Earl, played by Clint Eastwood, who misses his daughter Iris’s wedding to attend a horticultural awards ceremony. This decision leads to his estrangement from Iris and his eventual divorce from his wife, Mary. Twelve years later, Earl faces the foreclosure of his home. During a visit to his granddaughter Ginny’s wedding rehearsal, he is approached by a drug cartel member who recruits him as a “mule” to transport cocaine through Illinois.
Due to his age, race, clean record, and careful driving, Earl avoids suspicion and becomes one of the cartel’s most trusted couriers. With the money he earns, he buys a new truck, saves his home, renovates the local VFW Post, and funds Ginny’s wedding and education. The cartel members affectionately nickname him “Tata,” meaning grandfather.
Meanwhile, FBI Agent Colin Bates, played by Bradley Cooper, and his partner Agent Trevino, played by Michael Peña, are tasked with investigating the cartel’s operations in Chicago. They learn of Earl’s involvement and begin tracking him down.
As Earl grows closer to the cartel, its leader, Laton, played by Andy Garcia, invites him to a party. However, after Laton is assassinated and replaced by the ruthless Gustavo, played by Clifton Collins Jr., Earl finds himself in a more dangerous and controlled situation. The story unfolds as Earl navigates the complexities of his new life while staying one step ahead of the law.
