Description: The Monkey King: The Legend Begins is a 2021 film that tells the story of the legendary Monkey King. The plot begins with the Bull Demon King attacking Heaven but losing to the Jade Emperor, Heaven’s ruler. The Emperor’s sister, Princess Iron Fan, who is also the Bull Demon King’s lover, persuades the Emperor to spare him. Both the Bull Demon King and the demons are then banished to Flaming Mountain. After the goddess Nüwa sacrifices herself to rebuild Heaven with crystals, one of these crystals falls to Mount Huaguo and transforms into a monkey. Meanwhile, a nine-tailed fox is injured after touching the crystal and is taken away by a mysterious force.
Years later, the monkey is adopted and trained by Subhuti, who names him Sun Wukong. The Bull Demon King devises a plan to invade Heaven again, using Wukong and exploiting Erlang Shen’s resentment toward the Jade Emperor. Erlang agrees to assist the Demon King in exchange for the chance to overthrow his uncle and seize Heaven’s throne. This plan is kept hidden from Princess Iron Fan, who is pregnant with the Demon King’s child. Wukong later travels to the Dragon King’s palace to find weapons for the monkeys of Mount Huaguo. After defeating the Dragon King, he discovers a staff in the sea, which causes a violent storm when removed.
The Bull Demon King reconnects with the nine-tailed fox, now a young Vixen, and reveals he was the one who saved her. Following the Dragon King’s report of Wukong’s actions to Heaven, Erlang sends Nezha to arrest him. The Vixen, named Ruxue, reunites with Wukong, who promises to make her immortal after learning of her impending death at age 200. When Nezha attacks, he is killed by the Bull Demon King. Wukong befriends the Demon King, who tempts him with Heaven’s treasures, including the secret to immortality. Wukong’s journey to Heaven leads to further conspiracies, as consuming the Emperor’s elixir could amplify his power.
