Leon, a photographer seeking to capture gritty and unique images of the city, receives criticism from gallery owner Susan for not taking enough risks. Determined to prove himself, he ventures into the city’s subway system at night, where he witnesses and photographs an attempted sexual assault. After rescuing the woman, he discovers the next day that she has mysteriously vanished. Intrigued, Leon begins investigating similar disappearances and soon suspects a butcher named Mahogany of being responsible for the killings of subway passengers over the past three years.
Leon presents his findings to the police, but Detective Hadley dismisses his claims. As Leon becomes increasingly obsessed with the case, his girlfriend Maya grows concerned. To uncover the truth, Leon follows Mahogany onto the last subway train of the night, where he witnesses a horrifying massacre. Mahogany kills passengers and hangs their bodies on meat hooks. After a confrontation, Leon loses consciousness and wakes up in a slaughterhouse with strange markings carved into his chest.
Maya and her friend Jurgis analyze Leon’s photos of Mahogany, leading them to the killer’s apartment. While breaking in, Jurgis is captured, but Maya escapes with timetables documenting over a century of subway murders. She reports to the police, but Hadley remains skeptical. When pressured, Hadley instructs Maya to take the midnight train to find Jurgis. Meanwhile, Leon arms himself with knives and boards the train as Mahogany carries out his nightly slaughter.
A brutal fight ensues between Leon and Mahogany, with human body parts used as weapons. Jurgis, hung on a meat hook, tragically dies. The train reaches its final destination—an abandoned station filled with skulls and decomposing bodies, revealing the gruesome truth behind the mystery.
