Description: “The Mechanic” (2011) follows Arthur Bishop, a skilled hitman referred to as a “mechanic” in mafia slang. The story begins with Bishop infiltrating the luxurious home of a Colombian drug cartel leader and assassinating him. Upon returning to Louisiana, he meets his mentor and friend, Harry McKenna, who pays him for the job. However, Bishop soon receives a shocking new assignment: to kill Harry. After confirming the contract, Bishop reluctantly carries out the task, making it appear as a carjacking.
At Harry’s funeral, Bishop encounters Harry’s reckless son, Steve, who seeks revenge for his father’s death. Steve convinces Bishop to train him as a mechanic. Bishop adopts a chihuahua and instructs Steve to take the dog to a coffee shop daily as part of his training. The lessons escalate when Bishop takes Steve to observe a contract killing. Their target is Burke, another mechanic who frequents the same coffee shop and has a weakness for young men and small dogs.
Steve is tasked with drugging Burke’s drink, but he deviates from the plan, following Burke to his apartment. A violent confrontation ensues, and despite Burke’s size and experience, Steve eventually manages to kill him after a grueling struggle. The film delves into themes of mentorship, betrayal, and the moral complexities of the assassin’s life.
