Description: Mohamedou Ould Salahi endured 14 years at Guantanamo Bay without ever being formally charged with a crime. Following the events of 9/11, he was apprehended and accused of being a key recruiter for the attacks, despite a lack of concrete evidence linking him directly to the incident. One of the hijackers had briefly stayed at Salahi’s home, and in the global quest for justice, Salahi became yet another casualty. He documented his harrowing experience of imprisonment and torture in his 2015 book, *Guantanamo Diary*, which gained international acclaim and became a bestseller. The inevitable adaptation of his story, *The Mauritanian*, directed by Kevin Macdonald, features notable performances by Tahar Rahim, Jodie Foster, and Benedict Cumberbatch. However, the film falls short of fully humanizing Salahi’s ordeal, presenting a somewhat superficial and emotionally driven retelling of true events rather than delving into deeper, more thought-provoking themes.
