Description: The Matrix Resurrections 2021 is an American science fiction action film directed by Lana Wachowski. It serves as the sequel to *The Matrix Revolutions* (2003) and the fourth installment in *The Matrix* series. The story follows Neo, who lives as Thomas A. Anderson in San Francisco, twenty years after the events of *The Matrix Revolutions*. He is prescribed blue pills by his therapist to suppress strange visions he experiences. When he encounters a woman resembling Trinity, neither recognizes the other. A new version of Morpheus offers Neo the red pill, reopening his mind to the Matrix, which has become more secure and dangerous since the Smith infection. Neo joins a group of rebels to confront a new enemy.
The film stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Lambert Wilson, and Jada Pinkett Smith, reprising their roles from previous films. New cast members include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Christina Ricci. Produced by Village Roadshow Pictures and Venus Castina Productions, the movie was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
After *Revolutions*, the Wachowskis initially ruled out further sequels, intending the trilogy to conclude. However, rumors of a fourth film persisted, and the studio showed consistent interest in reviving the franchise. In 2019, a fourth installment was officially announced, with Lana Wachowski returning as director. Filming began in February 2020 but was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite initial hesitation, the cast encouraged Wachowski to complete the project, and filming resumed in August 2020, concluding three months later.
