Description: Six months after the events of *The Matrix*, Neo and Trinity are now romantically involved. Morpheus receives an urgent message from Captain Niobe of the *Logos*, calling for an emergency meeting of all Zion ships. Zion has confirmed the final transmission from the *Osiris*: an army of Sentinels is heading toward Zion and will arrive within 72 hours. Commander Lock orders all ships to return to prepare for the attack, but Morpheus requests one ship to stay behind to contact the Oracle. As the *Caduceus* receives a message from the Oracle, one of its crew members, Bane, encounters Smith, who reveals that his previous encounter with Neo severed his connection to the Matrix, turning him into a rogue program. Smith then absorbs Bane’s avatar and uses a phone line to exit the Matrix, taking control of Bane’s real body.
In Zion, Morpheus informs the people about the approaching machine army. Meanwhile, in the Matrix, Neo meets Seraph, the Oracle’s bodyguard, who leads him to her. After realizing the Oracle is part of the Matrix, Neo questions whether he can trust her. She replies that the decision is his. The Oracle instructs Neo to reach the Source of the Matrix with the help of the Keymaker. As she departs, Smith appears, revealing that after his defeat by Neo, he refused to be deleted and has become a rogue program. He demonstrates his ability to clone himself by using other inhabitants of the Matrix, including Agents, as hosts. Smith attempts to absorb Neo but fails, leading to a battle between Neo and Smith’s clones. Despite defending himself, Neo is forced to retreat due to the overwhelming numbers.
Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity visit the Merovingian, who is holding the Keymaker captive. The Merovingian, a rogue program with his own agenda, refuses to release the Keymaker. His wife, Persephone, seeking revenge for her husband’s infidelity, helps the trio locate the Keymaker. Morpheus, Trinity, and the Keymaker escape while Neo stays behind to fend off the Merovingian’s henchmen.
