Description: The Mask of Zorro, released in 1998, tells the tale of Don Diego de la Vega, a Spanish nobleman in California who fights for justice during the Mexican War of Independence as the masked hero Zorro. In 1821, Zorro disrupts a public execution orchestrated by the corrupt governor Don Rafael Montero, saving innocent peasants. Two brothers, Alejandro and Joaquin Murrieta, assist Zorro, who rewards them with a silver medallion. Montero suspects de la Vega is Zorro and confronts him at his home. A violent clash ensues, leading to the death of de la Vega’s wife, Esperanza. Montero kidnaps de la Vega’s infant daughter, Elena, and imprisons de la Vega before returning to Spain.
Twenty years later, Alejandro and Joaquin become bandits, seeking revenge. After a failed heist, Joaquin is captured and killed by Captain Harrison Love, Montero’s ruthless enforcer. Montero returns to California with Elena, now a young woman who resembles her late mother. De la Vega escapes prison and encounters Alejandro, who is also seeking vengeance against Love. Recognizing the medallion he gave Alejandro years ago, de la Vega decides to mentor him, uniting their shared quest for justice.
