Description: **The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)**
**Plot Summary:**
Samantha Caine (Geena Davis) is a schoolteacher living a quiet life in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, with her boyfriend Hal (Tom Amandes) and daughter Caitlin (Yvonne Zima). Eight years earlier, she was discovered on a New Jersey beach, pregnant and suffering from total amnesia. Unable to recall her true identity, she adopted the name “Samantha” and hired several private investigators to uncover her past, including the most recent, Mitch Henessey (Samuel L. Jackson).
During the Christmas holidays, a car accident leaves Samantha briefly concussed. Upon recovering, she discovers she has unexpected skills, such as expert knife handling, which she cannot explain. Soon after, their home is invaded by “One-Eyed Jack” (Joseph McKenna), a convict who escaped after seeing her on TV. Samantha kills him in self-defense, displaying her combat abilities. Concerned for her family’s safety, she leaves with Mitch to search for answers.
Mitch discovers a suitcase belonging to Samantha, containing clues that lead them to Dr. Nathan Waldman (Brian Cox). However, government agents are monitoring the doctor’s communications. During their journey, Samantha finds a disassembled sniper rifle in the suitcase, which she expertly reassembles, along with other weapons. When they meet Waldman at a train station, they are ambushed by agents, but the three manage to escape. Waldman reveals Samantha’s true identity: she is Charly Baltimore, a skilled CIA assassin who disappeared eight years ago.
Skeptical of Waldman’s trustworthiness, Samantha and Mitch part ways with him and seek another contact, Luke (David Morse), who may hold the key to Charly’s past. As they delve deeper into her mysterious history, danger follows them every step of the way.
