In the storyline, Scar leads Simba into a gorge and leaves him near a shaded rock, claiming that Mufasa has planned a surprise for him. Scar tells Simba to practice roaring while he fetches Mufasa. Suddenly, the ground begins to shake, and Simba realizes a stampede of wildebeest is charging toward him. He desperately tries to escape, even climbing a broken tree to avoid the herd. Mufasa arrives and rescues Simba, carrying him to safety. However, Mufasa is dragged back into the stampede as he struggles to climb the gorge’s side. Near the top, Scar betrays Mufasa, refusing to help and ultimately causing his fall into the stampede.
Simba finds his father’s lifeless body under a broken tree and grieves. Scar appears and blames Simba for the incident, leading Simba to believe he caused the tragedy.
