Description: “The Lincoln Lawyer” (2011) follows Mickey Haller, a criminal defense attorney operating in LA County, California, who conducts most of his business from the back of his black Lincoln Town Car, driven by his chauffeur, Earl Briggs. Known for defending low-level criminals, such as a biker gang led by Eddie Vogel, Haller takes on a high-profile case involving Louis Roulet, a wealthy Beverly Hills playboy and son of a real estate mogul, Mary Windsor. Roulet is accused of violently assaulting a prostitute, Regina Campo, but claims he is innocent and the victim of a setup.
As Haller and his investigator, Frank Levin, delve into the case, they uncover similarities to a past case involving Jesus Martinez, who was convicted of murder despite maintaining his innocence. Haller begins to suspect Roulet may be the true culprit in the Martinez case, but attorney-client confidentiality prevents him from revealing this. Meanwhile, Haller’s ex-wife, DA Maggie McPherson, disapproves of his defense of guilty clients, though they remain on good terms.
Roulet later confesses to Haller that he committed the murder Martinez was convicted of and threatens Haller’s family. After Levin is found dead, Haller discovers that his father’s gun, a .22 Colt Woodsman, is missing—the same weapon used in Levin’s murder. Despite knowing Roulet’s guilt, Haller is legally bound to defend him. In court, Haller discredits Campo and orchestrates a plan to expose Roulet’s crimes, ultimately seeking justice for Martinez and Levin.
