**Storyline:**
Jay, a divorced father, drives his daughter Kayla to a ballet retreat. On the way, they come across Kayla’s best friend, Britney, on the side of the road and offer her a ride to the same retreat. After stopping so Britney can use the restroom in the woods, Jay hears Kayla scream and finds her alone on a bridge over a river. Kayla confesses to pushing Britney off the bridge. Jay searches the area for Britney’s body but finds nothing, assuming she drowned and was carried away by the river. Kayla discovers Britney’s purse, and they go to tell her mother, Rebecca, who is an attorney.
At Rebecca’s home, Kayla admits to killing Britney. Britney’s father, Sam, arrives looking for his daughter. When he asks to speak to Kayla, Rebecca lies, claiming she’s at the doctor. Later, Sam becomes suspicious and returns to find Kayla at home. A physical confrontation ensues between Jay and Sam, leading Sam to threaten to involve the police. Noticing Britney had a bruise on her face, Jay convinces Rebecca to shift suspicion onto Sam for the disappearance. Rebecca contacts Detective Kenji Tagata, accusing Sam of abusing Britney. During the interrogation, Sam denies harming Britney and mentions she has run away before. Detective Kenji questions Kayla, who claims Sam has a temper and has hit Britney in the past.
Sam later spots Kayla outside Jay’s apartment and tries to grab her, but she retreats inside as he chases her, banging on the windows and calling her name. Jay and Rebecca attempt to bury Britney’s phone behind Sam’s house but are caught in the act. Sam confronts them, claiming he knows Kayla killed Britney. When he appears in front of their car, Rebecca deliberately hits him with the vehicle. Jay and Rebecca consider calling for help but ultimately decide to let him bleed to death, leaving his body on the road.
