Description: In 1899, a terrorist group known as the Fantom infiltrates the Bank of England, steals Leonardo da Vinci’s blueprints of Venice’s foundations, and kidnaps several German scientists. The British Empire dispatches Sanderson Reed to recruit the retired adventurer and hunter Allan Quatermain, who initially declines until assassins target him, leading to the death of his close friend Nigel. In London, Quatermain meets “M,” who reveals the Fantom’s plan to trigger a global war by bombing a secret meeting of world leaders in Venice. To thwart this scheme, M assembles a new iteration of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, comprising Quatermain, Captain Nemo, vampire chemist Mina Harker, and the invisible thief Rodney Skinner.
The League visits the London Docklands to enlist Dorian Gray, Mina’s immortal former lover, whose cursed portrait remains missing. When the Fantom’s assassins attack, the group, aided by U.S. Secret Service Agent Tom Sawyer, successfully defends themselves. Gray and Sawyer join the League. They then capture Edward Hyde in Paris, who reverts to his alter ego, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and agrees to join after being offered amnesty. The League travels to Venice aboard Nemo’s submarine, the Nautilus, but suspicions of a traitor arise when evidence suggests a mole is among them.
Upon reaching Venice, the bombs detonate, causing the city to collapse. Sawyer uses Nemo’s vehicle to prevent further destruction, while Quatermain confronts the Fantom, who is revealed to be M. Dorian, the traitor, kills Nemo’s first mate Ishmael and steals the Nautilus’s exploration pod.
