Description: In “The Lazarus Effect” (2015), Dr. Frank Walton and his fiancée, Dr. Zoe McConnell, medical researchers at a university, develop a serum named “Lazarus.” Originally intended to aid coma patients, the serum demonstrates the ability to revive the deceased. Eva, a videography student, joins them in the lab to document their groundbreaking project.
With the help of their lab partners, Niko and Clay, they successfully test the serum on a recently euthanized dog named Rocky. However, Rocky exhibits unexpected psychological and physical changes after revival: his cataracts vanish, he loses his appetite, and he becomes increasingly aggressive. Tests reveal the serum concentrates in Rocky’s brain, creating new synapses.
When the university dean discovers their unauthorized experiments, the project is shut down. Additionally, a major pharmaceutical company acquires the research and confiscates all related materials. Determined to prove their discovery, Frank and his team secretly return to the lab to replicate the experiment. Tragedy strikes when Zoe is fatally electrocuted. Ignoring warnings, Frank uses the serum to resurrect her.
Initially, the revival seems successful, but Zoe begins to act strangely. She recounts experiencing a personal version of Hell during her death—a childhood nightmare of witnessing neighbors burn to death in a fire. As the serum takes full effect, Zoe develops unusual psychic abilities, leaving the team to confront the unforeseen consequences of their creation.
