Description: “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” (2017) is a gripping psychological thriller. The story follows Steven Murphy, a talented cardiothoracic surgeon in Cincinnati. After successfully completing a complex heart surgery, Steven meets a young man named Martin Lang at a diner. Later, he returns home to his wife, Anna, and their two children, Kim and Bob.
During a dinner at the Murphy household, Kim appears to be quite taken with Martin. Steven confides in Anna that Martin’s father died in a car accident a decade ago, and he has been mentoring Martin to help him cope with the loss. In return, Martin invites Steven to his mother’s home for dinner. After the meal, Martin’s mother makes an unexpected romantic advance toward Steven, which he quickly rejects.
As days pass, Martin’s behavior becomes increasingly demanding and erratic. Steven begins to ignore his attempts to connect. However, things take a dark turn when Bob suddenly becomes paralyzed. Despite extensive medical examinations, doctors find no physical cause for his condition.
Martin later reveals a shocking truth: his father did not die in the car accident but during a surgery performed by Steven. To restore balance, Martin demands that Steven kill one of his family members. If Steven refuses, Anna, Kim, and Bob will succumb to a horrifying fate—paralysis, self-imposed starvation, and bleeding from the eyes.
As Bob begins to refuse food, Steven is forced to confront an unimaginable choice. Meanwhile, Martin revisits the Murphy household, deepening the family’s torment.
