The story begins in Paris, where Driss is speeding through the streets in Philippe’s Maserati Quattroporte, pursued by the police. When they are eventually stopped, Driss claims that Philippe, who is quadriplegic, urgently needs to reach the hospital. Philippe pretends to have a seizure, fooling the officers who then escort them.
The film then flashes back to Philippe, a wealthy quadriplegic living in a luxurious mansion, who is interviewing candidates for a live-in caregiver position. Driss attends the interview with no intention of getting hired—he simply wants the necessary paperwork to continue receiving welfare benefits. However, to his surprise, he is offered the job on a trial basis.
Despite his lack of experience and initial disinterest, Driss proves to be an unconventional yet effective caregiver. He learns to assist Philippe in every aspect of his daily life, and the two form a close bond. When Philippe’s friend reveals Driss’s criminal past, including a six-month jail sentence for robbery, Philippe dismisses the warning, valuing Driss’s genuine attitude over his history.
Philippe shares that his disability resulted from a paragliding accident and that his wife passed away without having children. Under Driss’s influence, Philippe begins to take charge of his personal life, including disciplining his adopted daughter, Elisa. Meanwhile, Driss discovers new passions like modern art, opera, and painting.
