Description: The Haunted Mansion is a 2003 American horror-comedy film directed by Rob Minkoff and written by David Berenbaum. Inspired by the Disney attraction of the same name, the movie features Eddie Murphy as a real estate agent who finds himself trapped in a haunted mansion. The cast also includes Terence Stamp, Nathaniel Parker, Marsha Thomason, and Jennifer Tilly in supporting roles.
The story follows Jim and Sara Evers, a successful realtor couple with two children, Michael and Megan. Jim, a workaholic who often neglects his family, misses their wedding anniversary and attempts to make up for it by suggesting a trip to a nearby lake. However, Sara receives a call from the residents of Gracey Manor, a mansion located in the Louisiana bayou. Hoping to secure a deal, Jim takes the family to the mansion, where they meet its owner, Edward Gracey, along with his butler Ramsley and servants Emma and Ezra.
When a storm causes the river to flood, Gracey invites the family to stay overnight. Ramsley takes Jim to the library to discuss the property, but Jim ends up trapped in a hidden passage. Meanwhile, Gracey gives Sara a tour of the mansion, sharing stories of his past, including the tragic deaths of his grandfather and his lover, Elizabeth Henshaw.
As Megan and Michael explore the mansion, they follow a glowing orb to the attic and discover a portrait of a woman who looks remarkably like Sara. Emma and Ezra reveal that the woman in the portrait is Elizabeth.
Jim encounters Madame Leota, the ghost of a gypsy whose head is trapped in a crystal ball. Upon reuniting with his children and the servants, he learns from Leota that the mansion’s inhabitants are ghosts cursed by the tragic deaths of Gracey and Elizabeth a century ago. The curse can only be lifted if the lovers are reunited, and Sara is believed to be Elizabeth’s reincarnation.
