Description: “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special” is a 2022 American television special written and directed by James Gunn for Disney+. Based on the Marvel Comics superhero team, Guardians of the Galaxy, it is the second Marvel Studios Special Presentation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), connecting to the franchise’s films and TV series. The story follows the Guardians as they celebrate Christmas and search for the perfect gift for their leader, Peter Quill.
The special features returning cast members Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Sean Gunn, and Michael Rooker, alongside newcomers Kevin Bacon and Maria Bakalova. James Gunn developed the concept during the production of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” (2017), and filming took place from February to April 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia, and Los Angeles, alongside production for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3″ (2023).
Released on Disney+ on November 25, 2022, the special concluded Phase Four of the MCU and received positive reviews from critics. The plot begins with the Guardians purchasing Knowhere from the Collector and rebuilding it. As Christmas approaches, Kraglin Obfonteri shares how Yondu Udonta once ruined Christmas for a young Peter Quill. Mantis, concerned about Quill’s ongoing sadness over Gamora, teams up with Drax to find the ideal gift for him. During this, Mantis reveals to Drax that she is Quill’s half-sister, sharing the same father, Ego. However, she decides to keep this truth from Quill, fearing it might remind him of Ego’s dark past.
