**Storyline:**
In 2004, Fiona Landers, a live-in nurse in Tokyo, becomes deeply disturbed after witnessing strange events in a house. She tells her colleague she is returning to America but encounters the ghost of Kayako Saeki. Upon arriving at her home on 44 Reyburn Drive in Pennsylvania, Fiona reunites with her husband Sam and their young daughter Melinda. However, Kayako’s curse takes hold of Fiona, driving her to kill Sam, drown Melinda, and then take her own life.
Detectives Goodman and Wilson investigate the murders. Goodman, unsettled by the house, refuses to enter, while Wilson goes inside to examine the scene. After leaving, Wilson begins to lose his sanity and eventually becomes hysterical upon seeing Fiona’s ghost. He attempts suicide but survives, leaving him disfigured and confined to a psychiatric institution. Goodman abandons the case.
Shortly after the Landers’ deaths, real estate agents Peter and Nina Spencer face distressing news about their unborn child, who is likely to be born with a rare genetic disorder. While exploring 44 Reyburn Drive for sale, Peter encounters Melinda’s ghost, mistaking her for a lost girl. He is then attacked by the ghosts of Fiona and Melinda, leading to his possession by the curse. Peter returns home, kills Nina and their unborn child, and drowns himself in the bathtub, possibly under the influence of Fiona’s ghost.
