StoryLine:
In November 1918, as World War I neared its end, a group of American soldiers was sent behind enemy lines to locate a missing platoon of African American soldiers. During the final days of the Great War, these U.S. soldiers, under the command of General Pershing and Colonel Jack Morrison, embarked on a dangerous mission to rescue the lost unit, known as the Buffalo Soldiers. Lieutenant Rivers, determined to bring his squadron back, stops at nothing to achieve their return.
Meanwhile, in the mountains and valleys of Upper Austria, a man named Jägerstätter lives with his wife, mother, and sister-in-law, farming the land and raising their children. As the war continues, Jägerstätter and other able-bodied men from the village are conscripted into the army. Their first task is to swear an oath of allegiance to Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich. Despite immense pressure from his community and even the Bishop of Salzburg, Jägerstätter refuses, drawing strength from his faith in God, his prayers, and his wife Fani’s unwavering support.
His decision leads to growing hostility from the villagers, isolating his family. Jägerstätter is arrested and imprisoned, first in Enns and later in Berlin, where he awaits trial. Throughout his incarceration, he and Fani exchange letters, offering each other courage and solace. Months of brutal imprisonment culminate in his trial, where he is found guilty and sentenced to death. Despite opportunities to sign the oath and avoid execution, Jägerstätter remains steadfast in his refusal. He is executed by the Third Reich on August 9, 1943, while Fani and their daughters endure the aftermath of his sacrifice.
