Description: The Grave 2020 Movie Synopsis
Shirja Mia, portrayed by Gazi Rakayet, is a middle-aged man who has lost everything dear to him—his loving family and his daughter—due to a devastating tidal wave. Now, he survives by begging, but his primary role in life is far more somber: he is an undertaker, a grave digger. Through begging, he gathers information about deaths in the community.
In his younger years, Shirja settled on a river island (Char), got married, and had a daughter named Rahela, played by Gazi Amatun Nur. Forced to leave for work in the city, Shirja promised to bring Rahela a doll upon his return. Tragedy struck when a severe storm prevented his return, and the tidal wave destroyed the Char, taking his wife and daughter with it. Returning to the devastated island, he found it littered with corpses, leading him to take up grave digging as a lifelong mission.
Shirja now clings to two possessions: the doll he never gave to Rahela and a number passed down from his ancestors, who believed that digging one hundred graves would guarantee entry into heaven. Despite this belief, no one has ever achieved this goal. Shirja, determined to reunite with his family in heaven, has dug 99 graves and is now on a relentless journey to complete the hundredth.
Drifting from village to village, he waits for news of deaths to continue his grim task. Along the way, he encounters a girl who eerily resembles his late daughter, plunging him into a profound moral and emotional crisis. The story follows Shirja’s unwavering quest for salvation and the haunting challenges that test his resolve.
