Description: In an alternate timeline, the asteroid that would have caused the extinction of dinosaurs 65 million years ago safely passes over Earth. Millions of years later, Apatosaurus corn farmers Henry and Ida raise their three children: Libby, Buck, and Arlo. While the older siblings excel and earn their “mark” (a mud-print on the family’s corn silo), Arlo struggles due to his timid nature. To help Arlo find purpose, Henry assigns him to guard the silo and sets a trap together. Though they capture a caveboy, Arlo frees him instead of killing him, disappointing Henry. While tracking the caveboy, a flash flood arises, and Henry saves Arlo before being swept away and dying.
Left without his father, Arlo takes on more responsibilities. He encounters the same caveboy in the silo and blames him for Henry’s death. Chasing the boy into a river, Arlo is knocked unconscious and wakes up far from home. After surviving alone, he gets trapped when a boulder pins his leg. The next day, the caveboy frees him and provides food. The boy leads Arlo to a berry tree, where he bravely fights off a snake, impressing both Arlo and Forrest Woodbush, an eccentric Styracosaurus who wants to claim the boy. Arlo competes with Forrest to name the caveboy and succeeds by calling him “Spot.” Arlo and Spot bond over their shared loss of family. When a storm frightens Arlo, he loses his way but wakes with Spot by his side.
