Description: **The Gold Rush (1925) Movie Synopsis**

The plot described here is from the 1942 re-release of the film. Set during the Klondike Gold Rush in Alaska, the story follows Big Jim, a gold prospector who discovers a massive gold deposit on his land. His triumph is interrupted by a sudden blizzard. Meanwhile, the Lone Prospector, also searching for gold, becomes lost in the same storm and takes shelter in the cabin of Black Larsen, a fugitive criminal. When Big Jim stumbles into the cabin as well, tensions rise. Larsen attempts to drive them out with a shotgun but is overpowered by Jim. The three agree to a strained truce, allowing them to remain in the cabin together.

As the storm drags on, food supplies dwindle, forcing them to draw lots to decide who will brave the blizzard to find sustenance. Larsen loses and ventures out, only to stumble upon Jim’s gold deposit. He plots to ambush Jim upon his return.

Back in the cabin, the remaining two grow desperate and resort to cooking and eating one of the Lone Prospector’s shoes. Jim, delirious from hunger, hallucinates the Prospector as a giant chicken and attacks him. Just then, a bear enters the cabin and is killed, providing them with much-needed food.

When the storm finally subsides, the two part ways. The Lone Prospector heads to the next gold boom town, while Jim returns to his gold deposit. However, Larsen ambushes him, knocking him out with a shovel. While fleeing with stolen gold, Larsen is killed in an avalanche. Jim regains consciousness but wanders into the snow, his memory lost from the blow.
