Fletcher compiles his findings into a screenplay titled *Bush* and attempts to sell it to Pearson’s trusted associate, Raymond, for £20 million.
Mickey Pearson, who rose from poverty in the U.S. to earn a Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University, initially sold marijuana to fellow students before abandoning academia to build a vast criminal empire through ruthless means. Now, Pearson aims to retire peacefully with his wife, Rosalind, by selling his business to American billionaire Matthew Berger for £400 million. Pearson’s operation involves growing cannabis beneath the estates of cash-strapped aristocratic landlords who rely on the income to maintain their stately homes.
However, Pearson’s plans are disrupted when Dry Eye, an underboss of Chinese gangster Lord George, makes an unsuccessful bid to take over his business. Simultaneously, an amateur MMA group known as “The Toddlers,” who aspire to be YouTubers, raid one of Pearson’s cannabis labs. They overpower the security, steal a van full of marijuana, and post a rap video of their exploits online. Their trainer, referred to only as Coach, is horrified to discover they’ve targeted Pearson’s operation.
In response to the raid, Pearson relocates his cannabis plants to ensure their safety while tasking Raymond with uncovering how the Toddlers located the lab. Pearson also agrees to retrieve Lord Pressfield’s troubled daughter, Laura, from a council estate where she lives with other addicts. During a confrontation with Laura’s housemates, one of Raymond’s men accidentally causes the death of a young Russian man named Aslan. Although Laura is returned to her family, she later succumbs to a heroin overdose.
