Description: Dr. Richard Kimble, a renowned vascular surgeon in Chicago, returns home one evening to find his wife, Helen, fatally wounded by a man with a prosthetic arm. Kimble confronts the attacker, but he manages to escape. Due to the absence of evidence of forced entry, Helen’s significant life insurance policy, and a misinterpreted 911 call, Kimble is wrongfully arrested, convicted of first-degree murder, and sentenced to death.
While being transported to death row, an escape attempt by fellow inmates leads to chaos, resulting in the deaths of two prisoners and the driver. The bus crashes into a ravine and collides with an oncoming train. Kimble saves a guard, narrowly escapes the derailment, and flees the scene. Senior Deputy U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard and his team soon arrive at the crash site and initiate a widespread manhunt.
Kimble sneaks into a hospital to treat his injuries and alters his appearance. He evades the authorities in a stolen ambulance and nearly gets caught in a highway tunnel but escapes through a storm drain. Gerard tracks him down and corners him at the edge of a dam spillway. In a desperate move, Kimble leaps into the water below and disappears.
Determined to uncover the truth, Kimble returns to Chicago to track down the real killer. He secures financial assistance from his friend and colleague, Dr. Charles Nichols. Disguised as a janitor, Kimble infiltrates the prosthetic department at Cook County Hospital to obtain a list of male patients with prosthetic arms. While there, he discovers a misdiagnosed young patient and forges new medical orders, ultimately saving the patient’s life. When a suspicious doctor alerts security, Kimble manages to escape.
Suspecting Kimble’s return to Chicago is tied to finding the one-armed man, Gerard spots him at City Hall, where Kimble is investigating a jailed individual on his list. Kimble narrowly escapes a chase and blends into the crowds of the St. Patrick’s Day parade, vanishing once again.
