**Storyline:**
In 1968, Poland, a mother shows her young daughter the stars in the winter sky, pointing out the Christmas Eve star. By 1990, a young Polish woman named Weronika (Irène Jacob) is singing with her choir during an outdoor concert. A sudden rainstorm interrupts the performance, causing the singers to scatter. Weronika holds the final note alone before seeking shelter. She later reunites with her boyfriend, Antek (Jerzy Gudejko), and they spend the night together. The next day, Weronika asks her father to inform Antek that she is leaving to care for her sick aunt in Kraków. She confides that she feels she is not alone in the world.
Weronika travels to Kraków by train and reunites with her aunt. She meets a local friend and attends a choir rehearsal, where her off-stage soprano performance catches the attention of the musical director, who invites her to audition. Thrilled, Weronika rushes home with the sheet music. On her way, she passes a protest in a square and notices a French tourist taking photos—a woman who looks exactly like her. Weronika smiles as her double boards a tourist bus that drives away.
At the audition, Weronika’s singing impresses the judges, and she is offered a position. However, after the audition, she experiences a mild cardiac arrest but recovers. The next day, she reunites with Antek. Tragically, during the choir concert that evening, Weronika collapses while singing a solo and dies of a heart attack.
