Description: The Devil’s Double (2011) is a gripping drama set in 1987, following the story of Latif Yahia, an Iraqi soldier portrayed by Dominic Cooper. Latif is drafted to serve as a “fedai,” or body double, for Uday Hussein, the notorious son of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. Despite initial refusal, Latif is forced to accept the role after enduring imprisonment, torture, and threats to his family’s safety.
Latif undergoes cosmetic surgery to enhance his resemblance to Uday and meticulously adopts his volatile personality and mannerisms. He is granted access to the lavish lifestyle of the Hussein family, including luxurious palaces, high-end cars, and opulent wardrobes. However, Latif struggles to conform to Uday’s reckless behavior, and an attempt to reunite with his family leads to severe punishment from Uday.
The story takes a darker turn as Uday’s sadistic tendencies come to light. He kidnaps a 14-year-old girl and forces her to accompany him to a high-profile party. During the event, Uday brutally murders his father’s bodyguard, Kamel Hana Gegeo, using an electric carving knife in a fit of rage. By morning, the body of the young girl is discovered, bearing the horrifying marks of abuse.
The film explores themes of power, corruption, and the devastating consequences of unchecked authority, offering a chilling glimpse into the brutal world of Saddam Hussein’s regime.
