Description: In the quiet town of Ogden Marsh, Iowa, Sheriff David Dutton is enjoying a local baseball game when the peace is shattered by Rory, a resident who enters the outfield wielding a shotgun. Despite David’s attempts to calm him down, he is forced to kill Rory when he threatens with the weapon. Meanwhile, David’s wife, Judy, the town doctor, observes another resident acting strangely, displaying repetitive and lifeless speech. The situation escalates the next night when a local farmer locks his family inside their home and sets it ablaze.
David and his deputy, Russell, discover a pilot’s body in a nearby swamp and later find a military aircraft that had crashed into the river days earlier. Suspecting a connection between the contaminated water and the bizarre behavior of the townspeople, David urges Mayor Hobbs to shut off the town’s water supply. When denied, David takes matters into his own hands and disables it.
Soon after, the town loses all communication, and military forces arrive to quarantine residents at a high school. During the examinations, Judy fails due to a fever caused by her pregnancy and is separated from David. Determined to save her, David escapes and reunites with Russell. They head to the school to rescue Judy, only to find infected townspeople breaking through the perimeter. The military abandons the civilians, leaving chaos in their wake.
Judy awakens strapped to a gurney alongside others, as school director Ben Sandborn begins executing quarantined individuals. David and Russell intervene, killing Ben and freeing Judy and her assistant, Becca. With no working vehicles, the four flee on foot and encounter Becca’s boyfriend, Scotty, at his farm. However, soldiers raid the property, killing Scotty and his mother before burning their bodies.
