**Plot Summary:**
In 1981, renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren document the exorcism of 8-year-old David Glatzel in Brookfield, Connecticut. The event is attended by David’s family, his sister Debbie, her boyfriend Arne Johnson, and Father Gordon. During the exorcism, Arne invites the demon to possess him instead of David. Ed witnesses the demon transfer from David’s body to Arne’s, just before suffering a heart attack and falling into a coma.
A month later, Ed regains consciousness and informs Lorraine that he saw the demon enter Arne. Lorraine warns the police of an impending tragedy at Debbie and Arne’s apartment. Shortly after, Arne, influenced by demonic forces, experiences disturbing visions and murders his landlord, Bruno Sauls, stabbing him 22 times. With the Warrens’ support, Arne’s case becomes the first in U.S. legal history to use demonic possession as a defense, leading to an investigation into David’s original possession.
The Warrens uncover a satanic curse linked to a witch’s totem and consult Kastner, a former priest familiar with the Disciples of the Ram cult. They learn that an occultist intentionally placed the totem, cursing the Glatzel family and causing David’s possession.
The Warrens then travel to Danvers, Massachusetts, to investigate the death of Katie Lincoln, who was also stabbed 22 times. A totem is found at the home of Katie’s missing girlfriend, Jessica. Lorraine uses her abilities to recreate the murder scene, discovering that Jessica, under demonic influence, killed Katie before taking her own life by jumping off a cliff. Detectives later recover Jessica’s body.
