**Plot Summary:**
In 1971, Roger and Carolyn Perron move into a farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island, with their five daughters: Andrea, Nancy, Christine, Cindy, and April. Their dog, Sadie, refuses to enter the house, and during a game of “hide and clap,” Nancy and Christine discover a boarded-up entrance to the basement.
Strange occurrences begin almost immediately. All the clocks stop at exactly 3:07 AM, birds repeatedly crash into the windows, and Sadie is found dead in the backyard. One night, Christine encounters a malevolent spirit that only she can see, and it threatens her family. Later, Carolyn hears clapping in the hallway and, upon investigating, becomes trapped in the basement by the spirit. Meanwhile, Andrea and Cindy are attacked in their bedroom by what seems to be the same entity.
Fearing for her family’s safety, Carolyn reaches out to renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, who have recently investigated a possessed doll named Annabelle. The Warrens agree to take on the case and conduct an initial investigation. They determine that an exorcism might be necessary but require approval from the Catholic Church and further evidence to proceed.
Through their research, they uncover the dark history of the house. It once belonged to Bathsheba Sherman, an accused witch who sacrificed her newborn to the devil and later cursed the land before taking her own life at 3:07 AM in 1863. The Warrens also find records of numerous deaths and tragedies tied to the property.
To gather more evidence, they set up cameras and alarms throughout the house with the help of their assistant, Drew Thomas, and local officer Brad Hamilton. While Ed, Drew, and Roger take the children out for ice cream, Bathsheba appears in Carolyn’s room, forcing her to become fully possessed and intensifying the terror.
