Description: The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations (2009) tells the story of Sam Reide, who experiences a shocking event when he witnesses a woman being killed. He later wakes up in an ice-filled bathtub, monitored by his sister Jenna. Sam possesses the unique ability to travel back in time, with his consciousness inhabiting his younger self. Using this power, he assists the police by posing as a psychic. Sam also supports his sister financially, paying her rent and providing groceries, as Jenna lives in poor conditions and rarely leaves her apartment.
Elizabeth, the sister of Sam’s late girlfriend Rebecca, visits Sam, convinced that Lonnie Flennons, the man set to be executed for Rebecca’s murder, is innocent. She urges Sam to uncover the real killer. Sam consults Goldburg, his mentor in time travel, who warns him about the crucial rules: he must not alter his past or leave his body unsupervised during time travel. Sam reflects on a previous incident when he saved Jenna from a house fire by altering the past, an action that tragically resulted in the death of their parents. After Goldburg departs, the bartender Vicki seduces him.
Sam agrees to assist Elizabeth and travels back to June 1998. There, he encounters a drunk Elizabeth and advises her to stay in her car, but later finds Rebecca dead. Elizabeth is also killed in her car. Returning to the present, Sam discovers that his life has drastically changed—he no longer owns a car, works for the police, or has a stable living situation. Instead, he is now a suspect in Rebecca’s murder and rents out his couch. Sam visits Lonnie, now a lawyer in a wheelchair, who admits to driving past the scene of the crime but not stopping. Goldburg suggests Sam return to the scene of the third murder but only observe. Sam also checks on Jenna, who is now living more comfortably but refuses to help him.
