Description: The Breakfast Club is a 1985 classic film that tells a compelling story of five high school students from Shermer High School. On March 24, 1984, these students are required to attend an all-day detention starting at 7:00 a.m. Each student represents a different social group: Claire Standish, the popular and privileged girl; Brian Johnson, the academically driven student; Andrew Clark, the athletic wrestler; John Bender, the rebellious troublemaker; and Allison Reynolds, the socially isolated loner.
They are seated in the school library under the supervision of Vice Principal Richard Vernon, who gives them strict instructions not to speak, move, or sleep until their release at 4:00 p.m. He assigns them a task to write a thousand-word essay describing who they believe they are. Throughout the day, tensions rise as John Bender challenges the rules and provokes the others, often targeting Claire, Brian, and Andrew. However, the group eventually begins to empathize with John after witnessing his struggles with abusive adults, including Vernon, who punishes him with additional detention and locks him in a storage closet.
As the day progresses, the students bond over shared experiences, revealing their personal struggles and vulnerabilities. Claire faces immense peer pressure, John deals with an abusive family, Allison struggles with compulsive lying and neglect, Andrew feels controlled by his father, and Brian reveals he once considered suicide due to academic pressures. They realize that, despite their differences, they all face similar challenges, particularly in their relationships with their parents.
