Description: The Break-Up is a 2006 romantic comedy film that explores the complexities of relationships. Gary Grobowski and Brooke Meyers meet at Wrigley Field during a Chicago Cubs game and quickly start dating. Eventually, they decide to purchase a condominium together. Gary works as a tour guide in a family business with his brothers, Lupus and Dennis, while Brooke manages an art gallery owned by eccentric artist Marilyn Dean.
Their relationship takes a turn when a series of escalating arguments bring their issues to the surface. Brooke feels unappreciated and criticizes Gary for his immaturity and lack of effort in improving their relationship. On the other hand, Gary is frustrated by Brooke’s controlling and perfectionistic behavior, expressing his desire for more independence, especially after returning home from work.
Tensions reach a breaking point when Gary fails to help Brooke clean up after a dinner party. Still upset from their unresolved argument, Brooke decides to end the relationship, despite still loving Gary. She seeks advice from her sister Addie, while Gary confides in his friend Johnny Ostrofski.
Unable to agree on who should move out of their shared condo, they decide to live as roommates. However, their living situation becomes a battleground as both try to provoke each other in increasingly exaggerated ways. Gary buys a pool table, leaves messes around the condo, and even hosts a strip poker party with Lupus and some women. Meanwhile, Brooke removes Gary from their couples-only bowling team and starts dating other men to make him jealous.
When their realtor friend Mark Riggleman sells the condo, Gary and Brooke are given two weeks to move out. Their petty behavior continues as they both refuse to back down, making their final days under the same roof a chaotic and comedic ordeal.
