Description: Inspector Jaime Peña looks into an accident that left night watchman Ángel Torres in a coma. Security footage shows Ángel fleeing from his job at the morgue before being hit by a car. Peña learns that the body of Mayka Villaverde, a wealthy middle-aged businesswoman, is missing from the morgue. Mayka had suffered a heart attack after a business trip and was married to a younger man, Álex Ulloa. Álex is with his mistress, Carla Miller, when he hears the news and reassures her that Mayka is dead.
At the morgue, Álex provides the coroner with details of Mayka’s medical history. Peña suspects the body was stolen to avoid an autopsy and finds Álex’s behavior suspicious, noting how easily he speaks of Mayka in the past tense. Peña, whose own wife died 10 years ago, still refers to her in the present tense.
Álex hears a loud noise and discovers a broken locker containing a small bottle labeled TH–16. He recalls earlier in the day when he added drops from the same bottle to Mayka’s wine. Peña informs Álex that Mayka’s cell phone is missing and finds the bottle on him. Álex claims it’s a toxin from Mayka’s pharmaceutical company but insists he found it on the floor and doesn’t know its purpose.
Strange events begin to unfold at the morgue, leading Álex to believe Mayka is still alive and seeking revenge for his affair and murder plot. He discovers Mayka had hired a private investigator, suspecting his infidelity and overhearing his plans to kill her.
Álex confesses everything to Peña, admitting he once loved Mayka, whom he met by chance in Avalon, California. He also met Carla by coincidence, fell in love with her, and shared his darkest secrets with her.
