**Storyline:**
Jake Blues is released from prison after serving a three-year sentence and reunites with his brother Elwood, who picks him up in their iconic Bluesmobile, a beat-up former police car. To showcase the car’s power, Elwood jumps an open drawbridge. The brothers visit the Roman Catholic orphanage where they grew up and learn from Sister Mary Stigmata that the orphanage faces closure unless they can pay $5,000 in property taxes. During a sermon by Reverend Cleophus James at the Triple Rock Baptist church, Jake has a revelation: they must reunite their band, The Blues Brothers, which disbanded during Jake’s imprisonment, to raise the money and save the orphanage.
Later that night, state troopers try to arrest Elwood for driving with a suspended license due to 116 parking tickets and 56 moving violations. After a thrilling high-speed chase through the Dixie Square Mall, the brothers manage to escape. The next morning, as the police arrive at Elwood’s flophouse, a mysterious woman sets off a bomb that destroys the building. Miraculously, Jake and Elwood survive unharmed and evade arrest.
Jake and Elwood begin their mission to track down their former band members. Five of them are performing at a deserted Holiday Inn lounge and quickly agree to rejoin the band. Another member initially refuses as he now works as a maître d’ at an upscale restaurant, but the brothers refuse to leave until he relents. On their way to find the final two members, they encounter an American Nazi Party demonstration blocking a bridge in Jackson Park. Elwood drives them off the bridge into the East Lagoon, clearing the way. The final two members, who now run a soul food restaurant, rejoin the band despite one’s wife’s objections. The reunited group secures instruments and equipment from Ray’s Music Exchange in Calumet City, with Ray accepting their IOU as usual.
