Description: In February, students at Bramford Academy, a Catholic boarding school in upstate New York, prepare for a week-long break as their parents come to pick them up. Freshman Kat and senior Rose are left behind. Rose, suspecting she might be pregnant, lied to her parents about the vacation dates to buy time. Kat, who had a disturbing dream about her parents dying in a car crash, is unable to reach them by phone.
As the girls stay alone at the academy overnight, Rose leaves with her boyfriend to reveal her pregnancy. Meanwhile, Kat receives a call. When Rose returns, she finds Kat in the boiler room, repeatedly bowing before it. Kat cryptically claims her parents are dead, unsettling Rose. Later, Kat’s body convulses in her bed.
The next morning, Rose and a visibly ill Kat join the nuns for breakfast, where Kat behaves strangely, vomits, and curses at the nuns. After an urgent phone call, the nuns instruct Rose to shovel the driveway for the sudden arrival of headmaster Gordon. Gordon arrives with a policeman, and they react with shock upon entering the nuns’ cabin, where a bloodstain is visible.
Meanwhile, Joan, a young woman who escaped a mental institution, arrives at a bus stop. A kind older man named Bill offers her a ride with his wife Linda to Bramford, near her claimed destination. During their stop at a motel, Joan’s shower reveals a scar on her shoulder, and a flashback shows her being shot by a policeman. Bill explains he picked her up because she reminds him of his late daughter, Rose, whose death anniversary coincides with the next day. Joan recognizes Rose’s name and retreats to the bathroom, suppressing laughter. It’s later revealed that Joan is using a stolen identity; she killed the real Joan to take her I.D.
