Description: The Black Phone, released in 2022, is a gripping thriller set in 1978. The story unfolds in a Denver suburb where a notorious child abductor, known as “The Grabber,” terrorizes the community. Siblings Finney and Gwen Shaw live in the area with their abusive, alcoholic father. Finney, who faces constant bullying at school, finds solace in his friendship with Robin, a courageous boy who encourages him to stand up for himself.
Tragedy strikes when Bruce, one of Finney’s friends, is abducted by The Grabber. Gwen, who possesses psychic abilities similar to her late mother, experiences vivid dreams about the kidnapping. Her knowledge of unreleased details piques the interest of Detectives Wright and Miller, though they remain skeptical of her claims. Soon after, Robin is also taken by The Grabber, leaving Finney terrified and vulnerable.
One day, Finney is abducted while walking home. He wakes up in a soundproof basement, where he encounters the masked Grabber. A disconnected black phone in the room suddenly rings, and Finney answers it. On the other end, Bruce communicates with him, offering guidance on how to escape by removing a floor tile and digging a tunnel.
Despite the police’s efforts, Finney remains trapped. The Grabber occasionally leaves the basement door unlocked, but Finney learns from another boy, Billy, that it’s a deadly ruse—The Grabber is waiting to attack anyone who tries to leave. Billy advises Finney to use a cord to escape through the basement window. During the attempt, Finney damages the window bars, preventing him from returning.
Meanwhile, Gwen dreams about Billy’s abduction and shares her concerns with her father. The story escalates as Finney struggles to survive and find a way to outwit his captor, while Gwen uses her psychic visions to aid the search for her brother. The Black Phone is a chilling tale of resilience, family, and the fight for survival in the face of unimaginable terror.
