Description: Jerry Warriner (Cary Grant) tells his wife he’s heading to Florida for a vacation but instead stays at his sports club in New York City. Upon his return, he finds his wife, Lucy (Irene Dunne), has spent the night with her attractive music teacher, Armand Duvalle (Alexander D’Arcy). Lucy explains her car broke down unexpectedly, but she later discovers Jerry didn’t actually go to Florida. Their mutual distrust leads to divorce proceedings, with Lucy gaining custody of their dog. The judge sets a 90-day waiting period before the divorce is finalized.
Lucy moves into an apartment with her Aunt Patsy (Cecil Cunningham), where she meets her neighbor, Oklahoma oilman Dan Leeson (Ralph Bellamy). Dan’s mother (Esther Dale) disapproves of Lucy, and Jerry’s subtle mockery of Dan pushes Lucy closer to him. Meanwhile, Jerry starts dating Dixie Belle Lee (Joyce Compton), a sweet but simple singer, unaware of her scandalous nightclub act.
Convinced Lucy is still involved with Duvalle, Jerry barges into the music teacher’s apartment only to find Lucy is genuinely taking vocal lessons and preparing for her first recital. Realizing he might still love Lucy, Jerry tries to ruin her reputation with Dan’s mother. Despite this, Dan and Lucy decide to marry. When Jerry attempts to reconcile, he discovers Duvalle hiding in Lucy’s apartment, leading to a fistfight. Dan breaks off the engagement after Jerry chases Duvalle away, and he and his mother return to Oklahoma.
Weeks later, Jerry begins dating wealthy heiress Barbara Vance (Molly Lamont). On the night the divorce is set to be finalized, Lucy crashes a party at the Vance mansion, pretending to be Jerry’s sister. She sabotages his image by portraying their father as working-class and mimicking Dixie’s risqué performance. The Vances are horrified, and the story unfolds with humor and chaos.
