That night, Annabelle warns Hannay to flee before dying from a knife wound. Learning he’s wanted for Annabelle’s murder, Hannay improvises by kissing a fellow passenger, Pamela, to avoid capture. When police stop the train, he escapes and heads toward Alt-na-Shellach.
Along the way, Hannay stays with a farmer and his wife, who helps him evade the police. Despite a relentless pursuit, including an autogyro, he reaches the home of Professor Jordan. Hannay confides in Jordan about the spy ring, only to discover Jordan is the man he’s been seeking. Jordan shoots Hannay and leaves him for dead, closing a chapter in this gripping tale of intrigue and survival.
