Description: In 1985, eight-year-old John Bennett, a lonely child from Norwood, Massachusetts, wishes for his new Christmas teddy bear, Ted, to come to life. His wish is granted by a shooting star, and Ted becomes his best friend, even gaining brief celebrity status. Twenty-seven years later, John, now 35, and Ted remain inseparable, living a carefree life in Boston. John is in a relationship with Lori Collins, whom he met at a dance club. As their fourth anniversary approaches, Lori hopes to marry John but believes he cannot progress in life with Ted around. After finding Ted with prostitutes during their anniversary dinner, John is convinced to make Ted move out. Ted gets his own apartment and a job at a grocery store, where he starts dating his co-worker Tami-Lynn.
Lori discovers that John has been skipping work, using her as an excuse, to spend time with Ted. John and Lori are invited to a party hosted by Lori’s manager Rex, but Ted convinces John to attend a different party to meet Sam J. Jones, the star of their favorite movie, *Flash Gordon*. John plans to stay briefly but gets caught up in the fun. Lori finds him there and angrily ends their relationship. Devastated, John blames Ted for ruining his relationship with Lori and cuts ties with him. The two confront each other, leading to a heated fight, but they eventually reconcile after a chaotic brawl in John’s hotel room.
