Description: Six months after John Bennett’s divorce from Lori, his best friend Ted, the talking teddy bear, marries his girlfriend, Tami-Lynn. A year into their marriage, a heated argument leads them to decide to have a child, assuming events from the first film. Since Ted lacks sperm, John agrees to help find a donor. They first approach Sam J. Jones, who declines due to a low sperm count. Next, they unsuccessfully attempt to steal sperm from Tom Brady. Ultimately, John offers to donate his own sperm. However, Tami-Lynn’s past drug use, despite her long period of sobriety, has left her infertile, forcing them to consider adoption.
During the adoption process, Ted’s legal status as a person is questioned. The Massachusetts state authorities classify Ted as property, not a person. As a result, Ted loses his job, his bank accounts are frozen, and his marriage to Tami-Lynn is annulled. John suggests taking the case to court. They seek the best lawyer they can find, who assigns their case pro bono to his niece, Samantha, a novice attorney. Initially hesitant, the group bonds over their shared love of marijuana while preparing for the case.
Meanwhile, Donny, Ted’s lifelong stalker, works as a janitor at Hasbro’s headquarters in New York City. He convinces the company’s CEO to hire a legal expert to ensure Ted remains classified as property, making him available for seizure by the company to produce more living teddy bears. Despite Samantha’s efforts, the court rules against Ted. Feeling defeated, the trio contacts Patrick Meighan, a renowned civil rights attorney, hoping he can overturn the decision. However, Meighan declines, arguing that Ted’s lifestyle hasn’t contributed significantly to humanity.
